The Materiality

Three tones. Three finishes. One object.

The R9's quiet authority doesn't come from any single tone — it comes from the way three of them sit together, with a fourth held in reserve for the parts that count most. Gold at the hub and across the propeller blades. Copper through the connecting links. Silver down the eighteen push-rods and across the valve caps. And, under the heads, a quiet silver-gold alloy on the pistons themselves — a finish that catches the light from one angle and disappears from another. Every surface is hand-finished in our Miami atelier and held to a single standard: built once, perfected once.

Gold-toned

The Hub & Blades

The propeller hub, the bullet cone, and the three propeller blades — finished in a warm gold tone, hand-polished one piece at a time. The lustre catches the light from every angle, and the propeller becomes the optical centre of the object. The first thing the eye finds.

Copper-toned

The Links

Eighteen connecting links and rocker arms — finished in copper, hand-textured to read like forged metal at scale. Each link is seated and aligned by hand. No two sit exactly the same way. None are meant to.

Silver-toned

The Spine

Eighteen push-rods run from the crankcase out to the cylinder heads — two per cylinder — finished in a cool, brushed silver, together with the valve caps that crown each head. Inside each cylinder, the pistons themselves carry a subtle silver-gold alloy finish. Cool against the warmth of the gold and copper above.

Brushed · Cool · Alloyed

Gold above. Copper between. Silver down the spine. Alloy at the heart.
From across the room, the R9 reads as a single object. Up close, every tone speaks for itself.

The Atelier Process

Over fifty hours of studio work. Every. Single. Unit.

Each Aero Mécanique R9 passes through over fifty hours of studio work — production, multi-stage hand-painting, controlled curing, individual assembly, and final inspection. There is no production line. Every unit is built one at a time at our Miami atelier.

The result is a precision object — a 9-cylinder radial engine arranged in star configuration, finished with a gold-toned hub and propeller, copper-toned connecting links, eighteen brushed-silver push-rods and valve caps, and silver-gold alloy pistons. Set on a carbon-textured composite base. Hoffmann Atelier produces, finishes, numbers, and certifies every unit personally.

Both editions share the same hand-finished precision object, the same laser-engraved certificate, and the same technical blueprint. The Collector’s Edition adds the gallery display case — hand-finished wood base with acrylic vitrine cover — and coordinated delivery with founder updates at each stage. Open production — each piece is sequentially numbered, signed by the founder, and registered in the atelier archive. Production is paced by hand, not by quota.

Why Hoffmann Atelier

The Hoffmann
Standard

01

Hand-Finished Surface

Every unit receives a multi-coat hand-painted finish, individually cured and inspected. The surface treatment is what separates a Hoffmann Atelier piece from any production replica.

02

Built One at a Time

Production is paced by hand, not by quota. Each unit is sequentially numbered, signed by the founder, and registered for life in the atelier archive — your number is yours alone.

03

Numbered & Certified

Every Aero Mécanique R9 ships with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Alain Hoffmann. Both editions include a laser-engraved technical blueprint on plywood.

04

The Tonal Quartet

Gold-toned hub and blades, copper-toned links, brushed-silver push-rods, silver-gold alloy pistons. Four tones, each hand-finished by the master craftsman. Built to be passed down.

05

Atelier Presentation

Both editions ship inside the Sashimono crate. The Collector's Edition adds a gallery display case — hand-finished wood base, acrylic vitrine cover — not included with the Standard Edition.

06

1-Year Limited Warranty

One year on manufacturing defects of finish, assembly, and structural components — including base integrity. Direct atelier support, no intermediaries. Excludes user-caused wear and natural patina of the metallic tones.

A Letter From
the Founder

"Some objects must be made by hand to be made at all."

The Aero Mécanique R9 is one of these. Each is built in the atelier in Miami — slowly, in sequence, by a single pair of hands. Fifty hours per piece. Ninety-three components. Nine cylinders, three blades, one signature.

I began this atelier for a quiet reason: there is a kind of authority that only an object built carefully — by someone who knew where it was going — can carry. It cannot be hurried, cannot be scaled, cannot be borrowed. It can only be earned, fifty hours at a time, by hands that care where the piece ends up.

When yours leaves the atelier, it carries its number, its signature, and its place in the ledger — which now belongs to you, for as long as the object exists.

There are still some things made this way.

Welcome.
